In this episode, we talk with Mark Hawthorne, author of the soon to be released book, “Bleating Hearts: The Hidden World of Animal Suffering,” which has been described as, “A staggering investigation into the ethics of animal exploitation around the world.” Mark is also the author of the popular book, “Striking at the Roots: A Practical Guide to Animal Activism.” He’s also a frequent contributor to VegNews magazine and volunteers, along with his wife lauren, for the Food Empowerment Project.

We also talk with Nava Atlas, founder of VegKitchen.com and author of numerous vegan and vegetarian cookbooks, including “Wild about Greens,” “Vegan Holiday Kitchen,” and “Vegan Express.” Nava also writes articles on healthful cooking with natural foods, which have appeared in Vegetarian Times, VegNews and many other publications. In addition to her food writing, she also produces visual books on family themes, humor, and women’s issues, and is an active fine artist.
